We adopted a new Privacy Policy at the officers’ meeting on 4th May 2018 and updated it further at our meeting on 1st June 2018.

The Robert Owen Memorial Museum is managed by volunteers and exists to maintain a museum in Newtown in memory of Robert Owen, the industrialist and social reformer, and to communicate the importance of his legacy to a wider audience.
If you provide information by which you can be identified, then it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.
We do not collect any information from or about children under the age of 16.
What information do we collect and when do we collect it?
Contact through website, email post or telephone
We collect the following information because of a contractual interest, when you contact the museum offering a service, product or expert knowledge:
• Name
• Job title (if you represent a company or organisation)
• Postal address, email address, telephone number(s)
We collect the following information from members or prospective members of the Council of Management, Trustees, museum officers and volunteers, because we have a legitimate interest in keeping in touch, and could not run the museum otherwise.

We collect the following information because of legitimate interest, when you contact the museum requesting specific information or enquiring about a visit, because we could not deal with your communication otherwise.

Email newsletter sign up
We collect the following information when you sign up for our email newsletter, either on-line or by email or sign-up form:
• First name
• Last name
• Email address
This information is given through consent when you sign up.
Gift Aid donation
We collect the following information as a legal requirement when you make a gift aid donation:
• First name
• Last Name
• Address
Website cookies
When you visit the website, website cookies collect information which feeds into Google Analytics. This is because we have a legitimate interest in assessing the impact of museum activities on website visits and visitor numbers. This data includes:
• Your IP address
• Your general geographical location
• The pages you visited
• Links you followed
• The time and duration of your visit.
You may refuse to accept website cookies without it affecting your access to the website.
Where do we hold the information we gather?
Basic contact information is held on-line as part of the museum’s email service, in a “Contacts” section. It is accessible only to museum officers and updated by the secretary. It is protected by password.
Email newsletter information is stored in the password-protected, online programme, Mailchimp, which has an unsubscribe button at the bottom of every email sent out.
MailChimp participates in and has certified its compliance with the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework and the Swiss-U.S Privacy Shield Framework.
Website cookies send information to the Google Analytics website where it is held in a password protected on-line environment and never downloaded.
Gift Aid information is kept locked away and is available only if HMRC need to verify your consent.
What do we use the information for?
• If you have opted in to email newsletters, we need your information to send you email newsletters.
• If you have made a Gift Aid eligible donation, we are required to keep a record of this for 7 years, even if you no longer wish to donate to us.
• If you have expressed an interest in volunteering, we need your contact information to stay in touch.
• We may use your information to contact you by email, phone or mail with queries related to your original contact.
• Museum officers may use the information collected by website cookies to inform them about which parts of the website are of interest to visitors and which country visitors come from. Information is never used to attempt to identify individuals.
Security
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect.
Controlling your personal information
You may choose to restrict the collection or use of your personal information in the following ways:
• If you have previously agreed to us using your personal information, you may change your mind at any time by writing to or emailing us at info@robert-owen-museum.org.uk or by unsubscribing from our email newsletters. All contact information on the museum’s contact list will be removed at this point and we will no longer be able to contact you.
• We will not pass on your information to third parties, unless we are required by law to do so.
• You may request details of personal information which we hold about you under the General Data Protection Regulation May 2018.
• If you would like a copy of the information held on you or if you believe that any information we are holding on you is incorrect or incomplete, please write to or email as soon as possible, at the address below.
